sembrado de cizaña
humildemente pido
en este y otros días
que el miedo no me gane
que la lengua no se me trabe
que lo que desconozco no me confunda
que lo que me confunde no me paralice
que lo que me paraliza no me venza
pido
paciencia ante la faena
discernimiento ante la injusticia
descanso en el porvenir
y gozo
para mí y para lxs
que conmigo caminan
arrancando cizaña
Ignacio Carvajal is a poet, scholar and translator from costa rica. Author of the chapbooks Plegarias and allow, their poems and translations have appeared in journals like Acentos Review and The Common; and the anthologies The Wandering Song: Central American Writing in the United States and No Tender Fences: An Anthology of Immigrant & First-Generation American Poetry. ignacio teaches Literature, Latin American Studies, and Creative writing at the University of California San Diego.
